State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 2 in Athol

Today, at approximately 9:55 a.m., Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Athol responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 2 East in Athol that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Christopher Willhite indicates that 37-year-old Annmarie Kemper of Winchester, NH was operating a 2002 Ford Explorer eastbound on Route 2 in Athol when her vehicle collided head-on with a 1997 Saturn sedan traveling westbound operated by 21-year-old Randall Graham of Boston. Kemper was transported by ambulance with minor injuries to Athol Memorial Hospital. Graham suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported by ambulance to Athol Memorial Hospital where she was later declared deceased.

This crash remains under investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Athol Fire Department, Athol Police Department, and MassHighway assisted troopers at the scene.

Due to the investigation and vehicle removal, Route 2 eastbound and westbound was closed between Exits 16 and 17 for approximately 3 hours.
