State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 24 in Fall River

On Sunday, September 28, 2008, at approximately 4:10 p.m., Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Dartmouth responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 24 North prior to exit 2 (Brayton Avenue) in Fall River that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper John Lema indicates that 85-year-old Evelyn Rebello of Fall River was operating a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire in the right travel lane of Route 24 North in Fall River when she lost control of the vehicle. The Pontiac struck the median guardrail, veered to the right across all lanes of traffic and came to rest in the breakdown lane. Rebello was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. As a result of injuries sustained in the crash, Rebello was pronounced deceased on the evening of Monday September 29, 2008.

The Fall River Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene.

Due to the investigation and vehicle removal, the right travel lane of Route 24 North was closed for approximately 1 hour.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
