State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 28 in Bourne

Today, April 4, 2009, at approximately 4:01 a.m., Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Bourne responded to a single-vehicle crash southbound on Route28 in Bourne that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Brent Pereira indicates that a 2004 Infiniti I35 sedan operated by 22-year-old Douglas M. Bacchiocchi of Bourne, was traveling southbound on Route 28 when the vehicle left the roadway into the wooded median. Bacchiocchi, who was not wearing a safety belt, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Bourne Fire Department assisted Troopers on scene.

Due to the crash investigation and vehicle removal, the left southbound travel lane of Route 28 was closed for approximately 3 hours.
