State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 495 North in Haverhill


On Monday, April 27, 2009, at approximately 1:44 a.m., Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Newbury responded to a one-vehicle crash on Route 495 North, north of Route 97 in Haverhill that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kevin Bibeau indicates that a woman was operating a 2002 VW Jetta sedan on Route 495 North, north of Route 97 (Exit 50) in Haverhill when she lost control and went off the right side of the roadway into the woods. The operator of the VW was ejected during the crash and suffered serious injuries. She was subsequently pronounced deceased at the crash scene. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending proper family notification. The right travel lane of Route 495 North was closed for approximately 1.5 hours for the crash investigation and vehicle removal.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Haverhill Fire Department, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and MassHighways assisted Troopers at the scene.
