State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 20 in Charlton
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Charles True indicates that a 2009 Volkswagon SUV operated by 44-year-old Alena Y. Komissarova of Charlton was involved in a motor vehicle crash with a 2005 Ford Escape operated by 70-year-old Joyce Mitchell of Spencer, at the intersection of Route 20 and Richardson Corner Road in Charlton. Joyce Mitchell sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Komissarova was transported by ambulance to UMass Medical Center with minor injuries. A passenger in the Ford, 75-year-old Karl Mitchell of Spencer, was transported by medical helicopter to UMass Medical Center with serious injuries.
This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Charlton Police and Fire Departments and the Oxford Police and Fire Departments assisted troopers at the scene.
