Massachusetts State Police to Hold Award Ceremony

On Friday, May 8, 2009, Colonel Mark F. Delaney, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, will recognize the exceptional achievements of 23 members of the Massachusetts State Police, 2 members of the Brockton Police Department, 1 Malden Police Detective, and 12 civilians. The awards that will be bestowed include:

(1) Medal of Valor - Given to sworn police officers who have performed specific acts of bravery or who have exhibited outstanding courage while performing their duties.
(1) Medal of Merit - Given to sworn police officers who have performed acts of outstanding achievement far exceeding the normal call of duty.
(8) Medal of Lifesaving - Given to sworn police officers for saving the life of another.
(20) Superintendent's Commendation - Given to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the State Police.
(5) Distinguished Service Award - The highest civilian award, given to a civilian for providing extraordinary assistance to the State Police.
(2) Lifesaving Award - Given to a civilian for saving the life of another.
(1) Public Service Award - Given to a civilian who has provided outstanding assistance to the State Police or who has contributed significantly to public safety.
