State Police Investigate Serious Crash on Route 3 in Chelmsford

On Thursday, March 26, 2009, at approximately 5:55 p.m., Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Andover responded to a single vehicle crash on Route 3 South by Route 110 in Chelmsford that resulted in two serious injuries.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Robert MacAllister indicates that two adult females were occupying a 2004 Hyundai Elantra on Route 3 South in Chelmsford when the vehicle lost control and rolled over. Both adult females sustained serious injuries. One was transported to the Lahey Clinic by ambulance and the other to Beth Israel by Med-Flight helicopter.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Chelmsford Fire Department and MassHighway assisted Troopers at the scene.

During the crash investigation and vehicle removal, the two right lanes of Route 3 South were closed for approximately two hours. All lanes on Route 3 North and South were closed for approximately 20 minutes for the Med-Flight helicopter.
