State Police Charge Dentist with Uttering Fraudulent Scripts

The Massachusetts State Police Diversion Investigation Unit this morning arrested a dentist from Carver after an investigation determined he allegedly had unlawfully prescribed Oxycodone to three people for non-medical reasons and uttered fraudulent prescriptions for one of his patients to obtain Hydrocodone.

Dr. JEFFREY M. FORD, 63, was charged with 16 counts of unlawful dispensing and distribution of a Class B drug, the Oxycodone, and two counts of uttering a false prescription. State Police executing a search warrant at his home during the investigation also allegedly found various illicit drugs, and FORD was additionally charged with unlawful possession of heroin, cocaine, amphetamine, Oxycodone, Methylphenidate, Diazepam and Alprazolam.

When the investigation began in March 2009, FORD had an office in Scituate. At the time of his arrest, he no longer had an open office.

State Police arrested FORD at his Carver home this morning following an indictment earlier this week by a Plymouth County grand jury. He was booked and then transported to the Plymouth Superior Court for arraignment.

The State Police Diversion Investigation Unit, which specializes in prescription fraud, launched its investigation after receiving a complaint from a Rite Aid pharmacy in Plymouth.
