Most Wanted Sex Offender Captured in Philadelphia

One of the Massachusetts State Police Most Wanted Sex Offenders was captured Tuesday at a Philadelphia rooming house. EARNEST BAXTER, 51, was arrested by US marshals after the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section developed information that BAXTER may be staying with relatives in Philadelphia.

The State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section added BAXTER to its Top Ten Most Wanted Sex Offender list earlier this year. BAXTER, who has been classified by the Sex Offender Registry Board as a High Risk, Level 3 offender, is wanted by Boston Police and Braintree Police for failure to register as a sex offender. BAXTER was required to register as a result of his 1985 conviction in Pennsylvania of rape and abuse of a child.

In recent days, after Trooper Collette Tamuleviz developed information that BAXTER might be in Philadelphia, State Police forwarded information to a US Marshals task force there. The task force arrested BAXTER at a rooming house on Buyre Street at approximately 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

BAXTER is being held on $250,000 bail at the Curren-Fremhold Correctional Facility pending his rendition to Massachusetts. He next scheduled court appearance in Philadelphia is Aug. 12.

The Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section searches for people identified as suspects in violent crimes, subjects of outstanding warrants, and sex offenders who fail to register with the Sex Offender Registry Board as required by law.
