State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Medford
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Christopher Maher indicates that a 2000 Volvo tractor-trailer owned by Midwest Run Inc. of Skowhegan, Maine, was disabled and parked to the right in the breakdown lane, well off of the roadway, with its hazard lights flashing. The tractor was being operated by Donald Hardesty, 58, of Norridgewock, Maryland.
Preliminary investigation further indicates that a 2006 Mercedes Benz C28, operated by Paul J. McCauley, 61 of Dracut, was traveling south on Route 93 when it veered to the right into the breakdown lane. The Mercedes collided with the disabled tractor trailer and came to rest on the right side of the roadway. Mr. McCauley was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section.
Troopers were additionally assisted at the scene by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Highway Division and the Medford Police and Fire Departments.
