State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 495 in Boxborough

Today at approximately 09:10 a.m. Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Concord responded to a one-vehicle accident on Route 495 northbound, north of exit 28 (Rt 111) in Boxborough which resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Patrick Candeliera indicates that 41-year-old Kevin Stearns from Maynard was driving a 2000 Volkswagen Golf north on Route 495 in the right lane when the vehicle crossed all three lanes and went off the left side of the road, striking a tree head on. The operator, who was wearing a safety belt, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This crash is under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, Middlesex District Attorney's Office and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Boxborough and Littleton Fire and Police and the D.O.T. Highway Division assisted Troopers at the scene.

The left lane of Route 495 was closed for two and one half hours due to investigation and vehicle removal. No further information is available. Please do not call the barracks directly.
