State Police ID Victim in Fatal Crash on Route 90 in Blanford

On Friday, February 5 at approximately 10:25 p.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Westfield responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 90 West in Blanford, which resulted in a fatality.

A man operating a passenger vehicle traveling eastbound lost control of his car and crossed over the median, striking head-on a westbound tractor-trailer unit, a 1997 Freightliner, being operated by John Chamberlain, 52, of Tucker, Georgia. The male operator, who was the only occupant of the passenger vehicle, was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by responding EMS personnel.

The victim has been identified as Stanley Vaughan, 49, of Springfield. No criminal charges will be filed in the crash.

The crash was investigated by Troop E of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Westfield Fire Department and EMS personnel also assisted at the scene.

During the crash investigation, the westbound lanes of Route 90 were closed with traffic being diverted through the nearby service area for approximately four hours.
