State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 2 East in Leominster

On Monday, January 18, 2010, at approximately 10:35 a.m., Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Leominster responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 2 East by the Route 190 overpass in Leominster that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Marc Roy indicates that 41-year-old Michael Dowd from Keene New Hampshire, was operating a 2002 Suzuki Gravitara on Route 2 East in Leominster when he lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over and came to rest in the median. Dowd sustained serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop C of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Leominster Fire Department, the Lancaster Fire Department, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the Massachusetts DOT.

Due to the crash investigation, the left lane of Route 2 East was closed for approximately 2 ½ hours.
