State Police Investigate Fatal Crash Involving Bicyclist in Vineyard Haven
Preliminary investigation by Sergeant Thomas Medeiros indicates that Bruce O'Donnell, 46, of Oak Bluffs, was operating a 2009 Kenworth tractor and hauling a 2011 Mack trailer westbound on State Road, where 40-year-old Dina Dececca of Melrose was riding a bicycle westbound on the sidewalk. As the tractor was passing Ms. Dececca, she, for reasons still under investigation, lost control of her bicycle and fell under the trailer. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The facts and circumstances of the incident remain under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted by Tisbury Fire and Police Departments.
No criminal charges have been filed at this point, but the investigation is on going.
State Road was closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.
