State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 28 South in Somerville

Friday July 9th at 9:10 p.m., Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Medford responded to a single-motorcycle crash on Route 28 south, just prior to Mystic Ave in Somerville. The crash resulted in one fatality and one serious injury.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Michael Caggiano indicates that a 2003 Harley-Davidson FXDANN motorcycle operated by a 37-year-old Richard MIGLIACCI from Somerville was traveling on Route 28 south heading in the direction of Route 93 south when he lost control and struck the curbing. The driver and his 29-year-old passenger, Sinead M. LOVETT from Braintree, were ejected from the motorcycle. Both victims were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where Ms. LOVETT was pronounced deceased. MIGLIACCI sustained serious injuries.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

Due to the crash the two far right lanes were closed for approximately three hours.
