State Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Route 90 West in Becket

Today at 3:27 p.m., troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Westfield responded to a single-motorcycle crash on Route 90 West at mile marker 16.8 in the Town of Becket. The crash resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Walter Lazarz indicates that 59-year-old Lorenza Bernasconi-Galli, who resides in Switzerland, was operating a 2007 Honda BTM 3 wheeled motorcycle ( trike ) on Route 90 West in Beckett when she drifted into the breakdown lane and struck the guardrail. The bike and rider continued in a westerly direction for approximately 188 feet before BERNASCONI-GALLI was ejected. She was seriously injured and was pronounced deceased at the scene. At the time of the crash BERNASCONI-GALLI was traveling with two other motorcyclists.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop E of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of troopers assigned to the Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Department of Transportation Highway Division.

The far right travel lane and breakdown lane were closed for approximately three hours during the investigation. No traffic delays were reported.
