UPDATE - State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 95 North in Newbury
Preliminary investigation by Trooper David Martinelle indicates that a 2005 Hyundai Accent was traveling north in the left lane when a 2010 Kia Soul in the third travel lane moved into the left travel lane. The Hyundai then lost control, rolled over, and came to rest in the median strip. Shannon Jacques, 18, of Dover, N.H., who was driving the Hyundai, was wearing her seatbelt and sustained serious injuries. She was transported by ambulance to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. Rene Sublette, 37, also of Dover, N.H., a passenger in the Hyundai, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Ms. Sublette was transported to Anna Jaques Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
The Kia was being operated by Stevenson Picard, 30, of Malden. Picard was not injured in the crash.
The facts and circumstances of this crash remain under investigation to determine if criminal charges are warranted. The investigation is being conducted by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police, with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
The two left lanes of Route 95 were closed for two hours while the crash was investigated and the vehicles were removed.
