State Police Fugitive Section Captures Florida Shooting Suspect

The Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, with the assistance of local police, yesterday captured a suspect accused of shooting another man at least eight times last week in Florida.

State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS) troopers and Brockton police detectives hit an apartment at 88 North Main St. in Brockton at approximately 5:50 a.m. yesterday. Inside, they found SEAN A. STROBEL, 20, of New Port Richey, Fla., and apprehended him without incident. The home was the residence of a relative of STROBEL.

STROBEL was tracked to that address through the diligent work of VFAS Trooper Curtis Cinelli, along with Taunton police detectives who had received a tip that STROBEL was in the Taunton area. The investigation, which included extensive research and surveillance, uncovered connections between STROBEL and two local relatives, one in Taunton, the other in Brockton. VFAS troopers and local police from both municipalities raided both houses simultaneously yesterday morning, finding STROBEL at the Brockton address.

On July 20, the Pasco County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office obtained a warrant charging STROBEL with attempted murder in the first degree for an attack earlier that day that left the victim with at least eight gunshot wounds - and somehow still alive. That day, STROBEL allegedly shot the victim multiple times after they got out of a car on a road in Pasco County, located on Florida's west coast. The victim escaped by playing dead as the car drove away and then, after he heard the car returning, by climbing over a sea wall and hiding underwater. The victim was finally able to call police and was transported by a medical helicopter to an area hospital, where he remains.

After STROBEL's arrest in Brockton, police booked him as a fugitive from justice. He awaits legal proceedings to rendite him to Florida to be prosecuted for attempted murder. Any further inquiries about the underlying Florida case should be directed to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
