State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 190 in Worcester
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Adam Emond indicates that Carl Runberg, 61, of Clinton, was operating a 1997 Saturn SL2 southbound on route 190 just past exit 1, when his vehicle struck the guardrail on the right side of the highway. The vehicle then struck the guardrail on the left side of the highway and subsequently rolled onto its roof.
Mr. Runberg was transported by EMS personnel to UMass Hospital in Worcester where the ER staff pronounced him deceased. Mr. Runberg was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and speed is believed to have been a factor.
Route 190 southbound was closed for approximately 2 hours while the investigation was completed.
The facts and circumstances of this crash remain under investigation by Troop C of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were also assisted at the scene by the Worcester Police Department, the Worcester Fire Department, and the Highway Division of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
