State Police Investigate Serious Crash on Route 495 in Wareham

On March 13, 2010 at approximately 11:15 a.m., Troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Bourne responded to reports of a two-car rollover on Route 25 West, east of Route 195 (Exit 1) in Wareham.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kevin Brito indicates that 41 year-old Daylene Tropeano from Buzzards Bay was operating a 1999 GMC Suburban in the center lane when a 1999 Toyota Avalon being operated by 66 year-old Louise Houle from Falmouth approached from the rear and made contact with the Suburban causing both vehicles to roll over. The GMC came to rest in the median on the driver's side and the Toyota came to rest on its roof in the breakdown lane.

Both operators, along with 5 passengers from the Suburban were transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham. The 5 passengers were three boys ages11,7, and 4 and two girls ages 9 and 1. The 11 and 9 year olds were then transported to Children's Hospital in Boston. The state police do not identify juvenile victims or relationships. The 11 and 9 year old suffered serious injuries and the other victims suffered minor injuries.

The facts and circumstances of this crash remain under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section.

Troopers were additionally assisted at the scene by the Wareham Fire Department, Bourne Fire Department, and the DOT Highway Division.

During the crash investigation traffic was limited to the far right travel lane for approximately 2 ½ hours.
