State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 95 in Attleboro
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Allen Luther indicates that the Honda Accord, operated by a 20 year-old Ashley Derochea from Brockton, was traveling on Route 95 southbound when she lost control of the Honda striking the right side guardrail, rolling over and then striking the left guardrail. At some point during the crash an infant was ejected from the vehicle. The infant was seriously injured and transported to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Rhode Island where the infant was pronounced deceased. The operator Derochea was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. A passenger 21 year old Michael Cornell was injured and was also transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
The facts and circumstances of this crash remain under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section.
Troopers were additionally assisted at the scene by members of the Highway Division of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Attleboro Police and Fire Department.
