State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Wendell

Today at 12:17 a.m., troopers from the Athol Barracks responded to reports of a one car roll-over crash on West Orange Rd in Wendell.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Ed Gass indicates that 18-year-old Shaun Murcell of Orange, was operating a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer when he lost control of the vehicle and veered off the right hand side of the roadway. The vehicle then rolled over and Mr. Murcell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected.

Responding EMS personnel pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

Also in the vehicle were 18-year-old Kristin Dube of West Boylston and 18-year-old Matthew Raimon of Orange. Both passengers were wearing seatbelts and were not injured in the crash. They were transported to Athol Memorial Hospital for precautionary reasons

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.

The facts and circumstances of this crash remain under investigation by Troop C of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and State Police Detectives from the Franklin County District Attorney's office.

Troopers were additionally assisted at the scene by the Orange Police Department, the State Medical Examiner's Office and the Wendell Fire Department.
