State Police Investigate Fatal Rollover in Mansfield

Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Foxboro responded to a single-car rollover on Route 495 in Mansfield shortly after 10 p.m. last night. The driver of the sport utility vehicle was ejected in the crash and later died from in injuries at the hospital.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Anthony Fabiano indicates that John H. Kempster Jr., 62, of Taunton was driving a 2004 Honda CRV southbound, south of Exit 12, when he lost control of the sport utility vehicle. The Honda, which was in the left lane, veered off the roadway and entered the median strip, where it rolled over several times.

Mr. Kempster was transported by ambulance to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The facts and circumstances of the crash, including why the vehicle went off the road, remain under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Mansfield Fire Department.

During the crash investigation the left lane of Route 495 southbound in that area was closed for approximately two hours.
