State Police, United States Marines to Promote Toys for Tots Drive

Tomorrow, Wednesday December 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., the Massachusetts State Police and members of the United States Marine Corps Reserve will hold a press conference and toy drive at the State Police Barracks in South Boston, located at 125 William Day Boulevard, to promote the 63rd Annual United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program. The Toys for Tots Program collects toys each year during the holiday season and distributes them as Christmas gifts to worthy children.

Additionally this year, the State Police and United States Marine Corps will be holding a second conference at the State Police Air-wing office at 35 Lonzcak Dr, located at the Westover Air force Base in Chicopee, at 2:00 p.m.

For more than 26 years, the Massachusetts State Police have partnered with the United States Marine Corps in providing drop-off areas for donated toys. As in years past, this year people can drop-off new, unwrapped toys at any State Police Barracks through Friday Dec. 17th.

This holiday season there is a specific need for non-violent toys designed for children ages 9 and older. The continued economic downturn finds even more Massachusetts families in need of toys for their children and requests have increased significantly. The State Police and the Marine Corps encourage those with the means to do so to donate to this worthy program and help ensure a happy holiday season for a disadvantaged Massachusetts child.

At Wednesday's event, Marine Corps Colonel Brian Neil and State Police Colonel Marian McGovern will partner to deliver the holiday message to take measure of our blessings and give to those who are less fortunate.

Donors may drop off toys at any State Police Barracks. Individuals looking for more information may visit the program's website at www.toysfortots.org.
