State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Shelburne Falls

Today at 4:47 p.m.,Troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Shelburne Falls responded to a crash involving a car and motorcycle on Route 2 in Shelburne Falls. The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Christopher Olander indicates a 2005 Ford Freestyle was traveling westbound on Route 2 when its driver turned left onto Shelburne Center Road. As the car turned left, it crossed the path of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling eastbound, causing the motorcycle to strike the car. The motorcyclist, Michael Harris,60, of Shelburne Falls, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The car's driver, Tamara Spears, 49, of Shelburne Falls was not injured.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop B of the Massachusetts State Police, with the assistance of the Franklin County District Attorney's Office, the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending proper family notification.
