State Police Investigate Serious Crash in Peabody

Today at 7:25 a.m., Troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Danvers responded to a rollover crash on the ramp from Route 1 northbound to Route 95 northbound in Peabody that resulted in injuries to two teenagers.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper James Gill indicates that Chad Mancini, 19, of Lynn was operating a gray 2004 Chevrolet Malibu sedan on the ramp when Mancini lost control of the car, which crashed into a guardrail, spun around, hit the guardrail again, and rolled over. The car came to rest in the soft shoulder of the roadway. Mancini's passenger, a 15-year-old Peabody girl, was ejected from the vehicle. Both victims suffered serious injuries.

Preliminary investigation suggests that neither victim was wearing their seatbelts. Both were transported by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

The investigation indicates that excessive speed was likely a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

The ramp was completely closed until approximately 10:30 a.m., when one lane was reopened. One lane remains closed to accommodate ongoing repair of the guardrail.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
