State Police Capture Robbery Suspect with Victim's Assistance

This morning at 7:10 a.m., State Police Troopers from the Northampton Barracks responded to calls of an overnight robbery in Leverett in which the victims awoke to discover their home and vehicle had been broken into while they slept.

One of the electronic items stolen had tracking software installed which allowed the owners to track its location on their computer. The victims reported to the barracks that they were tracking the stolen item and could direct Troopers to its location.

The victims tracked the stolen item and continuously updated responding Troopers with its location. Based upon that information, Trooper Michael T. Tucker was able to follow the stolen item which was determined to be located in a moving vehicle. Trooper Tucker was able to stop the vehicle, recover the stolen item, and subsequently place the man in possession of it under arrest.

57 year-old Donald Petigny-Perry of Montague was arrested on one count of Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime and as result of this arrest, State Parole authorities immediately revoked Petigny-Perry's active parole. Petigny-Perry was transported to the State Police Barracks in Northampton for booking and remains there while the investigation proceeds. He will be brought to the Northampton Court for arraignment later today.

The robbery investigation being conducted by Trooper Amy J. Maclean, is focusing on whether this suspect may be additionally responsible for a recent rash of robberies in the Western Massachusetts area. Trooper Maclean and detectives from several area Police Departments are attempting to locate any other victims and stolen property. Anyone with information regarding recent robberies is asked to call the State Police Barracks in Northampton at (413) 584-3000

A complete list of charges will not be available until Trooper Maclean is able to fully investigate Petigny-Perry's possible involvement in any other unsolved home robberies.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
