State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Boxford

At 9:47 p.m. last night, troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Newbury responded to a single-vehicle crash into woods along Route 95 in Boxford that resulted in the death of the driver.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper George Katsarakes indicates that a 1999 Kia Sephia operated by Tuc Phan, 67, of Danvers, drove off the roadway and into woods near Exit 52 on the northbound side of the highway. Other motorists reported to State Police that Mr. Phan was driving against the traffic - going south on the northbound side - just prior to the crash.

Mr. Phan, who was wearing his seatbelt, was transported by ambulance to Beverly Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Preliminary investigation indicates that he may have suffered a medical incident that caused him to lose control of and crash his vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The crash did not cause any road closures. The scene was cleared at 10:50 p.m.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not contact the Barracks directly.
