State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Reading

The victim in Sunday night's fatal crash on Route 93 in Reading is identified as John A. Sadler, 49, of Manchester, N.H. Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Andover had responded to the rollover crash that caused the fatal injuries at 9:34 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper James Martin indicates that a 2000 Dodge Neon operated by Mr. Sadler was traveling northbound on Route 93 in Reading when it struck the guardrail on the left side of the road in the area of the ramps to Route 128 southbound. After that impact, the Neon veered right across all four lanes of traffic, left the road, and struck a large stone ledge, coming to rest on its side.

Mr. Sadler was transported by ambulance to Lahey Clinic in Burlington, where he was later pronounced deceased.

According to witness statements, the Neon was operating erratically at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were also assisted by the Highway Division of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

The right and breakdown lanes of the northbound side of Route 93 at the crash scene were closed for just over an hour-and-a-half to accommodate the rescue response, crash investigation, and cleanup.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
