State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Danvers

The victim in last night's fatal motorcycle crash in Danvers is identified as Dana Martin, 38, of Gloucester.

At 6:55 p.m. yesterday troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Danvers responded to the single-vehicle crash on Route 1 northbound, at the intersection with Route 114.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Robert Noonan indicates that Mr. Martin was operating a 2006 Yamaha XV250 motorcycle was observed traveling northbound on Route 1 in Danvers, alternatively slowing and passing other vehicles as it moved between the left and right lanes. At one point, the motorcycle lost control, struck and then mounted a curb on the left edge of the road, and then struck the guardrail. Mr. Martin was ejected from the motorcycle, while the bike continued to travel, riderless, approximately 70 feet further north on the highway before coming to rest.

Troopers were on-scene within two minutes and attempted to perform lifesaving efforts. Mr. Martin was transported by ambulance to Beverly Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were also assisted by the Highway Division of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

Portions of the northbound side of Route 1 at the crash scene were closed for just over an hour to accommodate the rescue response, crash investigation, and cleanup.
