Dec 13: State Police Checkpoints Leads to Noteworthy Arrests

The Massachusetts State Police conducted two sobriety checkpoints last weekend, one on Friday night, the other Saturday night. On each night, a driver was arrested and charged with a fifth operating under the influence offense.

On Friday, Dec. 9, Troop C conducted a sobriety checkpoint along with Shrewsbury Police on Route 9 eastbound in Shrewsbury, resulting in five arrests for OUI-alcohol and one for OUI-drugs. Additionally, MSP personnel made two misdemeanor arrests and issued a criminal summons and 45 civil motor vehicle citations. Shrewsbury Police made one arrest for OUI-alcohol, bringing the overall checkpoint total to 7 arrests for OUI alcohol or drugs.

On Saturday, Dec.10, Troop A conducted a checkpoint on Route 28 at Walcott St. in Lawrence, resulting in nine arrests for OUI-alcohol, one felony arrest for unlawful gun possession, and four misdemeanor arrests, and issued 70 civil motor vehicle citations.

One of the OUI arrests at each of the checkpoints was for a fifth offense, meaning the suspect has four prior OUI convictions. These drivers have been identified as Robert D. Urban, 48, of Auburn and Sean T. Quinlan, 51, of Salisbury.

This week, the State Police will hold sobriety checkpoints on Thursday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 17 in Troop H, and on Friday, Dec. 16 in Troop A.
