Troopers Help Deliver Baby Girl in Cambridge

At 8:01 this morning, two Troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Brighton responded to a medical call from an expectant father who was driving his wife, who was in labor, to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. The couple was stuck in traffic on Route 2 and believed the birth was imminent.

A Sergeant who was manning the desk in the Barracks told the couple to pull over as Troopers and an ambulance were dispatched. The soon-to-be father turned onto Huron Avenue. Within minutes, Troopers Frank Parker and John Arone located the couple's silver Volkswagen Passat at the intersection of Huron and Concord avenues.

While the father coached his wife in the vehicle, the Troopers helped deliver a baby girl, who came into the world at 8:09 a.m. An ambulance soon arrived and transported the couple and their family's new addition to Mount Auburn Hospital.

State Police are not releasing the couple's name at this time.
