State Police Help Make the Special Olympics Winter Games a Success

For the 12th consecutive year, the Massachusetts State Police proudly partnered with the Massachusetts Special Olympics and presented medals at the Special Olympics annual Winter Games. The award ceremonies were held on March 12 and 13 at the Wachusett Mountain Ski Area in Princeton. On both days, state troopers volunteered their time to present Olympians with individual awards. When not participating in the presentation ceremonies, troopers were spending time with the athletes, their families, and their coaches.

"We were honored to once again assist with this wonderful event, and I am extremely proud of our state troopers who donated their time to help make these Games a success," said Colonel Marian J. McGovern.

According to the Special Olympics Web site, "The Games include approximately 2,000 athletes and coaches, as well as 1,500 volunteers under the guidance of the professional Special Olympics Massachusetts State Office staff. The Winter Games give athletes another chance during the year to train and compete in the sports they adore. The Special Olympics Massachusetts Winter Games are a great opportunity for athletes to showcase their love for winter sports and another opportunity for them to experience a full and vibrant lifestyle."

The involvement of State Police Troopers at this event brings great joy to the Olympians. Once again members of Troop C volunteered their time to make this event memorable for the Athletes and their families.
