Jun 01: Four CT Women Face More Than Hit and Run Charges

One Arrested Twice by Same Trooper in 24 Hour Period

At approximately 3:40pm on May 31, 2013, the State Police Barracks in Sturbridge received a call from Connecticut State Police advising that a black Honda Accord (plate number was also provided) had fled from a crash scene on I-84 in Connecticut and was driving toward Massachusetts. Sergeant Daniel O'Sullivan directed Trooper Paul Bertozzi and Trooper Yuiry Bukhenik to take up positions along I-84 in Sturbridge to look for the vehicle. A short time later, a witness to the crash contacted the Sturbridge Barracks to report he was following the suspect vehicle as it entered Massachusetts. Trooper Bukhenik caught up to the vehicle at the I-90 tolls and initiated a motor vehicle stop. Trooper Bertozzi and Trooper Brian Pearl arrived shortly thereafter as backup. The witness provided her account of the crash to the troopers. She also provided a positive identification of the operator at the time of the crash who had switched seats with one of the passengers before fleeing the crash scene in Connecticut. The operator of the Honda, EBONY EVANS, stated they were on their way to the Wrentham Outlets to shop, and then provided false personal information to the troopers. The four passengers in the vehicle also provided a mixture of true and false personal information to troopers. A search of the vehicle uncovered a large number of unopened Victoria's Secret cosmetics and perfumes, as well as numerous Micheal Kors handbags with price tags and anti-theft sensors still attached, with a total estimated value of approximately $1600. All of the women were positively identified at the Sturbridge Barracks, some through their fingerprints. Bail was set for each at $540. The involved parties and their charges are as follows:

Alexis Spence

Residence: Hartford, Connecticut
Charges: (1) Receiving Stolen Property Over $250 & (2) Conspiracy

Chelsey Huff

Tania Anderson

Shalon William-Bey (operator at time of crash in Connecticut)
Age:22
Residence: Hartford, Connecticut
Charges: (1) Receiving Stolen Property Over $250, (2) Conspiracy & (3) Various MV Charges in Connecticut

The investigation is ongoing. Given the circumstances, coupled with additional information gathered by the troopers after their arrests, the investigation is ongoing, both into the stolen property itself, as well as the women's potential involvement with other parties in organized thefts of this nature. All parties were bailed this morning and are scheduled to appear Monday morning in Dudley District Court.

Only a few hours after being bailed, Trooper Bertozzi was on patrol when he observed EVANS operating a motor vehicle. Knowing her to be unlicensed from her prior arrest, Trooper Bertozzi initiated a motor vehicle stop and arrested EVANS for a second time in less than 24 hours. She has subsequently been bailed for a second time and will face additional motor vehicle charges related to the second arrest in Dudley District Court Monday morning.
