State Trooper Struck While Assisting with Motor Vehicle Crash

Today at 7:45 p.m., a Massachusetts State Trooper was injured when his cruiser was struck by a motor vehicle on Route 495 southbound near Route 140 in the town of Mansfield. The Trooper was inside his cruiser at the time of the crash.

The Trooper was  assisting another officer investigate an earlier motor vehicle crash when his marked State Police Cruiser  was struck by a passing motorist.  

The Trooper was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.  The Troopers injuries are not believed to be serious.  

The State Police Collision Analysis Section and the State Police Crime Scene Service Section have been processing the scene. The crash remains under investigation by a supervisor assigned to Troop H.  

There has been no determination on possible charges against the operator of the vehicle that crashed into the Trooper.
