We are pleased to announce that the Department of Public Safety ("Department") is accepting entries from children in grades 1-6 for the 2007 DPS Amusement Safety Poster Contest. The Department is sponsoring this contest to encourage children to think about safety, particularly as we enter the summer months when trips to amusement parks and carnivals become more frequent. Both operators and riders have a responsibility to make sure that they are acting safely before, during, and after the use of a ride. Amusement devices for which the Department has oversight of licensing and inspection include traditional rides such as carousels, ferris wheels, and roller coasters; large and small inflatables; go-karts; and bungee jumps.
The deadline for entries is Friday, May 11, 2007. The contest is open to all children in public, private, and home-school programs, however family members of current Department employees are not eligible. Entries will be grouped according to the grade-level of the entrant with winners from each grade-level receiving a United States Savings Bond issued in their name. Selected posters will be included in the 2008 Amusement Safety Awareness Calendar produced by the Department. Rules and entry forms may be found at the links below.
