The Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division (HSD) developed this site to connect parents and caregivers with the information and resources they need to keep their kids safe on the road.
In addition to providing car seat safety outreach and education, HSD annually administers federal grants from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that serve to enhance Child Passenger Safety (CPS) throughout the Commonwealth. The CPS Equipment and CPS Training & Administration grants, detailed below, are awarded each year to eligible agencies.
The CPS Equipment Grant aims to reduce fatalities and injuries by distributing federally approved car seats to residents in need. Municipal departments, hospitals, and regional non-profit agencies with at least one full-time CPS technician on staff are eligible to apply. Applicants must detail their outreach plan to promote CPS to low-income residents in their coverage area. Awarded agencies are provided with car seats for distribution at inspection sites and checkup events.
The CPS Training & Administration Grant has been awarded to Safe Kids of Western Massachusetts/Baystate Children’s Hospital since 2013. The goal of this program is to recruit and train CPS technicians and instructors, organize checkup events, and educate parents and caregivers on the proper selection and use of car seats and how to comply with the Massachusetts CPS Law.
