With funds from a federal grant, the Regional Academy is the only State Police organization in the country who design and implement Commercial Vehicle Enforcement programs, education and training for other police departments on the international, regional and national level.
In a continuous effort to expand the Commonwealth's policing capacity, officers from the section work in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police Academy to train and certify police officers in the North American Standard Inspections protocol. Our students have come from America, Mexico, Canada and Guam.
Collaboration with the State Police from Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut, Maine and Vermont oversees the annual inspection and continued regulation of interstate motor coach carriers that operate in the extensive North East tourism corridor.
Other established programs include:
- Coordination with Intelligence agencies, Customs and Port Authorities to strategize effective responses to terrorist activity.
- A national effort to document and intervene against at-risk cargo carriers who violate safe operating procedures across state lines.
- The on-going analysis of crash data to guide effective traffic enforcement action.
- A continued effort to stress the vital importance to commercial drivers of safety belt use and the repercussions of non-compliance.
The talented teams of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section are currently engaged in the design and implementation process of an interactive web site resource for all commercial vehicle entities that will inform, instruct and address the regulations and concerns that govern their jobs and businesses.
