The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s (EOPSS) Highway Safety Division (HSD) intends to award $128,490.83 in federal funds, made available to Massachusetts by the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, to the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) to conduct professional development training courses on Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) for law enforcement personnel across the Commonwealth.  Funds will also be used to support a part-time SFST Coordinator position. Based on the availability of federal funds, the contract period to which these funds will be applied is from December 1, 2014 through September 30, 2015.

The Municipal Police Training Committee is charged with setting and enforcing training standards, identifying and meeting the training needs of the municipal, University of Massachusetts, and environmental police officers of the Commonwealth, facilitating the delivery of up-to-date, state-of-the-art training, and documenting training.  Therefore, given the MPTC’s existing capacity and infrastructure, this a best value that will enable the Commonwealth to secure continued federal funds to conduct SFST training for law enforcement personnel and support a part-time coordinator.  The MPTC receives no specifically-designated appropriations for these purposes.
