The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security plans to award up to $175,000 in federal National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funds to the RMV to promote motorist awareness, improve motorcycle training curricula, and improve the delivery of motorcycle training in Massachusetts.

The RMV is the home of the Massachusetts Rider Education Program (MREP). The manager and the coordinator of this program will be responsible for implementing the activities of this interdepartmental service agreement (ISA), which are intended to augment the current program activities and coincide with MREP goals.

Based on the availability of federal funds, the period to which these funds will be applied is on or after April 1, 2014 through December 30, 2014.

With the RMV’s existing capacity and infrastructure, this is a best value that will enable the Commonwealth to secure federal funds for these services.  The RMV is the authority that oversees motorcycle training and other motorcycle safety issues for the Commonwealth. The RMV receives no specifically designated appropriations to provide these services.
