  • Notice of Intent to Award Funds to the Massachusetts Department of Correction

The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security intends to award $457,000.00 in federal Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds to the Massachusetts Department of Correction (DOC).  This allocation falls within Massachusetts’ Strategic Plan for JAG to address reentry in an effort to reduce recidivism and increase public safety.

Funds will be utilized to focus efforts on reducing recidivism and increasing public safety utilizing a Restorative Justice model.  The services to be provided include working with offenders and their families to develop and implement an individualized reentry plan and post-release case management, while allowing the victim’s family to participate in the pre-parole and parole hearing process and remain engaged during the reentry process.  The DOC is the sole agency with the capacity and expertise to implement the proposed project.

The duration of the grant will be approximately 12 months with anticipated start and end dates of October 14, 2014 and September 30, 2015.
