Notice of Intent to Award Funds to the Executive Office of Health and Human Services
The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security intends to award $1.5 million in federal Byrne Justice Assistance Grant funds to the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS). The funds will be utilized for the purpose of sustaining the programming of the Safe and Successful Youth Initiative in the cities of Boston, Brockton, Chelsea, Fall River, Holyoke, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, New Bedford, Springfield and Worcester. This allocation fits into the Byrne Purpose Area of Gangs, Guns and Youth Violence in order to improve the quality of life for all citizens by reducing firearm related crime and preventing youth violence, in particular the formation of gang associations.
EOHHS is the sole agency with the capacity and expertise to implement the proposed program. This Best Value award will enable EOHHS to continue to administer the Safe and Successful Youth Initiative and its legislative requirements. The direction of the grant will be six months with anticipated start and end dates of January 1, 2014 and June 30, 2014.
