• Competitive Grant Program for Municipal Police Departments

Pursuant to the appropriation in 1599-0026 in Chapter 68 of the acts of 2011, the Executive Office of Public Safety is announcing the availability of a competitive grant program for eligible municipal police departments. Please review the AGF announcement linked below for more detail and to determine if your department is eligible. The application has a quick two-week turnaround, to facilitate the distribution of funds to eligible departments and to allow for maximum flexibility if a department chooses to enroll a new hire in one of the upcoming recruit academies offered by the Municipal Police Training Council. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call Michael Coelho, Assistant Secretary for Policy and Planning, at 617-274-5536.

  • Violent Offender Incarceration - Truth In Sentencing (VOI-TIS) Grant Program

The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security/Office of Grants and Research (OGR) is responsible for administering the Federal Violent Offender Incarceration and Truth in Sentencing (VOI/TIS) Incentive Formula Grant Program. In an effort to ensure that states expend all of their remaining VOI/TIS funds, the federal government has made the determination that VOI/TIS funding can be used for additional purposes other than construction. The OGR is making available approximately $500,000 in unallocated, but previously appropriated, VOI/TIS funds to support prisoner reentry programs. State and local correctional agencies, including the Department of Correction, Department of Youth Services, the County Sheriffs' Departments, and the Massachusetts Parole Board, are eligible to apply for VOI/TIS funds. This VOI/TIS funding cycle will be a competitive process for one-time grants only. Funds must be expended no later than September 29, 2007.
