This $4 million grant program provides initial funding for 50 municipal police officers.

The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security's Office of Grants and Research (OGR) has identified 13 communities with the highest violent crime rates that will be eligible to apply for this funding.

The thirteen communities are as follows:

  • Springfield
  • Worcester
  • Fall River
  • Lowell
  • Holyoke
  • Lynn
  • Brockton
  • Chelsea
  • New Bedford
  • Lawrence
  • Fitchburg
  • Pittsfield
  • Wareham

The application period has closed.

The grant period is twelve months; contracts will begin January 1, 2008, and will end January 1, 2009.

All funds will be made available to communities after contracts are executed.
