The SPMA Class #1 has completed their sixth week of training. During week 6, they received classes in Domestic Violence, Criminal Procedure, Patrol Procedure, Defensive Tactics, as well as several others. During Patrol Procedures, they participated in and conducted motor vehicle inventories. The Massachusetts Alcohol Beverage Control Commission (ABCC) presented training on liquor laws and fraudulent documents. Sgt. Gregg Nadeau of the State Police Gang Unit gave an informative class on Street Gangs. Suicide Prevention and Behavioral Science classes were also part of this week's curriculum.
Student Officers have been required to make "knowledge cards." These cards require the student officer to research their town in which they will be working. The knowledge cards include information about the form of town government, population, department information, and interesting facts about the town, etc. While it is important for each student officer to have the necessary police training, we believe it is also important that each student officer have a "vested interest" in the town and department they will be working for.
