Student officers of the second State Police Municipal Academy (SPMA #2) concluded their first week of training at the State Police Academy. Fifty-two student officers, representing 47 police agencies, remain in the program. The first week's instruction consisted of strength and conditioning, defensive tactics, motor vehicle laws, criminal law, patrol procedures, ethics, command and leadership, and stress management/suicide prevention.
In addition to instruction by academy staff, the training included expert instruction from officers from the West Springfield, Northampton, Holden, Spencer, Franklin, Pittsfield, and Worcester Police Departments.
Co-Academy Director Jack Claffey and Sgt. Michael Lyver of the State Police Academy continue to work together to ensure that the student officers receive the best training available from the Massachusetts Police Training Committee training staff and State Police instructors.
