2009 Municipal Police Training Class Week 18

SPMA #2 has successfully completed eighteen weeks of training. During week eighteen, Student Officers received classes in Defensive Tactics, Vehicle Theft, Tactical Communication, Criminal Procedure and Leadership. On Monday, Student Officers were broken up into two groups; one group visited the East Brookfield District Court, while the other group visited Belchertown District Court. Student Officers had the opportunity to observe bench trials and arraignments and speak with Court Officers on the proper procedure and protocol when transporting prisoners to respective courts. District Court Judges spoke to the Student Officers relative to the importance of credibility during testimony. On Friday, Student Officers participated in a mini round robin. The was broken up into three groups and received training in CJIS/LEAPS, Courtroom Testimony and Active Shooter. On Friday, the Student Officers received their guidon.

This week concluded scenario training for their Applied Patrol Procedures, which was held on the eve shift. The scenario training has provided realistic police challenges to the Student Officers. The success of the scenario training is a result of the personnel support received from many outside agencies. The scenarios consisted of various traffic stops, as well as calls for service. The following police departments assisted the MPTC and MSP Staff in the training this week: Templeton, UMass Amherst, Northborough, Springfield Technical Community College, Western New England College, Military Police from Hanscom Airforce Base, Salem State College, Stoneham, Framingham State College, Franklin, Holden, Manchester, Methuen, Needham, New Braintree and Springfield College. Other agencies that assisted were Massachusetts Fire Fighting Academy, New Braintree Fire, Franklin Police Explorers, Wachusett High School CJ students and interns and MSP civilian staff.
