ATTENTION: THIS IS A PHASE I ACTIVATION OF THE CAPE COD EMERGENCY TRAFFIC PLAN
The following message is an emergency traffic advisory from the Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.
Due to the extra heavy volume of traffic the Cape Cod Emergency Traffic Plan has been activated. This plan will assist in facilitating the movement of the extra heavy volume of traffic that is expected to leave Cape Cod. This is not an order to evacuate . Areas that must be evacuated due to the danger will be specifically advised to do so by local authorities. This information is for motorists who have decided to leave the Cape, and for residents who live in the area of the Cape Cod Canal where emergency detour routes will change the normal traffic pattern.
In order to maintain a constant off-Cape traffic flow over the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges, we ask that you to pay particular attention to the following instructions:
- Watch for the Emergency Traffic Plan signage along detour routes. There will be both electronic message boards and permanent signs directing you alone specific routes.
- Do not stop in traffic to ask directions. If you must stop for any reason, pull off the road, out of the flow of traffic.
- Stay tuned to WQRC for updates on the traffic advisories.
PLEASE NOTE:
- This radio message will repeat until the situation results in change of message. At that time a new message will be broadcast.
- On Cape Cod there will be both electronic message boards and signs repeating these detours along the routes as well as "Evacuation" route signs.
- Once off Cape Cod you will continue to see electronic message boards and signs up to route 44 in Plymouth.
- Stay tuned to WQRC (99.9) for updates on the traffic advisories.
