Station B-5, Russell is located on Route 20 in the Town of Russell. It is a two story brick and stucco building erected in 1959 to replace the vintage wooden building known as "Fort Apache", which had been located a mile west of the present structure. The station serves eleven (11) cities and towns and patrols nearly 365 square miles. In 9 of the towns station police serve as the primary police department. Eleven state highways run through the patrol area. The station is additionally tasked with security of the Cobble Mountain and Borden Brook reservoirs; and the Knightville and Littleville Dams. Troopers from SP Russell also assist in the security and enforcement at Westfield State College and Barnes Airport, home of the 104th Tactical Fighter Group.
