Station C-5, Sturbridge was built in 1960 to replace the former Charlton Barracks and is located on Rte 20 adjacent to Rte 84. Since the closing of the Monson Barracks in 1983, C-5 has been a three-patrol station in order to provide coverage to that former station area. This area, referred to as our "West Patrol" includes the Towns of Brimfield, Holland, and Wales with part time police departments, where we provide most of the police services. The West patrol also includes the Towns of Palmer and Monson, along with the Brimfield State Forrest and the Monson State Hospital. The entire patrol area encompasses twelve towns from Palmer to Auburn along the Connecticut border. Primary Interstates include Rte 84, a major thoroughfare connecting New York and Boston and Rte 395 running from the Connecticut line to Auburn. Secondary roads include twenty miles of Rte 20 from Auburn to Palmer along with an additional ninety miles of other state roads.
