Prison Population Trends
This Massachusetts Department of Correction Prison Population Trends report reflects a significant change in the annual reporting of inmate statistics by the Department's Research and Planning Division. Our prior reports were limited to the criminally sentenced population. This new report for 2009 expands beyond information on the criminally sentenced population to include those civilly committed and awaiting trial detainees. In essence, this report reflects the "stock and flow" of both the standing population as of January 1, 2010 and the substantial movement of inmates in and out of the Massachusetts Department of Correction's (DOC's) jurisdiction.
